During the early development stages of the DCCD-web application and TRiDaS, the need for controlled vocabulary within dendrochronology (data storage) became clear. Within the DCCD project (discussed at the
DCCD meeting of April 2009) a first draft of this multilingual and controlled vocabulary has been developed and can be found here (for Dutch, English, French and German).
It is important to stress that this list is not yet finished and should be further expanded by specialists from various disciplines. It is important that note that only edits and additions received before 31 July 2009 can be incorporated in the development of the TRiDaS Access database and the DCCD-web application. All edits and additions submitted after this date will still be included in the list, but not in the first version of the Access database and DCCD-web application (compare frame). Please check your terminology to the list, terms not included in this list can be automatically submitted or read by the DCCD-web application. Any additions to the list can be emailed to m.kosian@cultureelerfgoed.nl following the instructions of the list.
Instructions controlled vocabulary:
The controlled vocabulary is built up out of four different sheets (List certain, Uncertain, Eng-Ned, Taxon). The first sheet (List certain) consists of seven different columns: Nederlands (Dutch), English, Français (French), Deutsch (German), Reference(s), Used for and Description (AAT/Haslinghuis). The first four columns are the currently defined multilingual terms within the controlled vocabulary and the last three columns are use to describe the term, what it is used for and source (reference). Nederlands (Dutch) has been the starting point of this controlled vocabulary after which English, Français (French) and Deutsch (German) terms were added. The other three sheets consist of uncertain terms (which need to be conformed), a complete list of Dutch and related English terms and Taxon (derived from ITIS). This controlled vocabulary is NOT finished; any additions or edits to this list are welcome. Please edit the current list by writing down your suggestion in the corresponding field (in red) (also see picture). (illustratie VocaListEdits.jpeg) If you would like to add new terms please write these down at the bottom of the list beneath the header (in blue) (also see picture). (illustratie VocaListNewAdditions.jpeg) Every edit of, or addition to, the list has to include a reference to existing controlled vocabulary and a (short) description in English!

The DCCD-web application will use the controlled vocabulary to validate (the used terms within) the TRiDaS XML. The DCCD-web application will therefore not accept the submitted data if unlisted terms are used in the controlled vocabulary fields.* *New (agreed) additions to the list will be periodically included in the application. |
