During the early development stages of the DCCD-web application and TRiDaS, the need for controlled vocabulary within dendrochronology (data storage) became clear. Within the DCCD project (discussed at the DCCD meeting of April 2009) a first draft of this multilingual and controlled vocabulary has been developed. The first draft of this vocabulary was posted in June 2009 after which it was discussed within the DCCD project group. After certain improvements and additions the first official version of the multilingual controlled vocabulary (Vocabulary_2009_v1_0.xls) can now be presented and found here (for Dutch, English, French and German).
It is important to stress that this list is not 'set in stone' and should be further expanded by specialists from various disciplines. All edits and additions submitted will be discussed by the DCCD-group and if necessary included in the list. Please check your own terminology to the list. Any additions to the list can be emailed to m.kosian@cultureelerfgoed.nl following the instructions of the list.
Instructions controlled vocabulary:
The controlled vocabulary is built up out of three different sheets: vocabulary object_element types naming all the different objects and elements, our taxonomic list from the Catalogue of Life containing all the scientific names of trees and our multilingual taxonomic list which translates a selection of these trees in Dutch, English, French and German. Although this is the first official release of the controlled vocabulary, this list is not finished! If you have any additions or improvements to the list please write them down in red and in the corresponding field(s).
Every edit of, or addition to, the list has to include a reference to existing controlled vocabulary/thesauri and a (short) description in English (in the corresponding fields)!

The DCCD-web application will use the controlled vocabulary to validate (the used terms within) the TRiDaS XML. The DCCD-web application will therefore not accept the submitted data if unlisted terms are used in the controlled vocabulary fields.* *New (agreed) additions to the list will be periodically included in the application. |
